Mindset of a Champion: Part 3

Out of all the Aesop’s Fables, The Tortoise and the Hare, is my favorite. I think the tortoise was maybe one of the first characters that I could relate to. He was my hero, growing up, and he is still my inspiration.

Tortoise had everything going against him in this race. He was going up against a stronger and faster opponent. He carried the weight of his world on his back. Literally. He hadn’t trained for it. If I were the betting kind of person, I would have put my money with the hare.

But, he still said yes to the race.

And even though his opponent passed him up right at the starting line, he stayed in the race. He kept going. Right at his own little pace.

The little hare, confident in his abilities and the lack of his opponent’s abilities, he stopped to smell the flowers, get a drink of water. After a strong start, his opponent still at the starting line, a nap started to sound awesome.

The whole time, my little hero just keeps going.

He passes that sleepy little hare right up and crosses the finish line.

And that consistency, my friends, is part of what won the race. He kept going. Nothing distracted him from the goal of finishing his race. He kept his pace steady. He didn’t tire himself out. He just kept going. No matter what. For all he knew, that pesky little hare was already across the finish line. And he still kept going.
